Updates: State Farm Insurance Saves the Kids' Farm!

On July 20, 2011, the Friends of the National Zoo announced that the Kids' Farm, and Pizza Playground would be saved with a generous contribution of $1.4 million from State Farm Insurance. This is one of the largest gifts ever received by the National Zoo and it will ensure that the Kids' Farm and Pizza Playground stays open through 2016.

Updates: Family Fundraiser Raises Over $3000 to Help Save the Kids' Farm!

The Great Zucchini, singer/songwriter Marsha Goodman-Wood, John Henry, the guitar playing man, and Bingo the Magic Clown performed before hundreds of kids and their families at a fundraiser to Save the Kids Farm at Horace Mann Elementary School, which was a resounding success! Many thanks to all the performers, to Horace Mann Elementary and to the hundreds of people who came to save the Kids' Farm. Over $3000 was turned over to the Friends of the National Zoo as they seek corporate and individual sponsors to maintain the Kids' Farm and Pizza Playground going forward.

The Smithsonian National Zoo is planning to close the petting zoo and pizza playground this Spring. Don't let this happen. The Zoo plans to redirect funds for the petting zoo to "higher priority programs." Help us keep a great place for kids thriving at the Zoo.

3) Let the Smithsonian Leadership know you want the Kids' Farm saved. Ask them to reconsider the Kids' Farm decision at their April 11th Board of Regents meeting.

4) If you are a funder, or know of a potential corporate sponsor that could underwite the operations and maintenance of the Kids' Farm and Pizza Playground, let us know. We want to work with the Zoo to identify funders who can support the $250,000 annual operating costs of the Kids' Farm.
